Experience It!
The Sounds of Fado Music

Your evening of enchantment begins in Barrio Alto - the heart of Lisbon's Fado district. Step through the doors of Adega Machado's Restaurant and walk into quintessential Portugal. Welcome to Lisbon, circa 1931. Family-owned and operated through three generations, Machado's is one of Portugal's top Fado venues. Oil lamps hanging from the ceiling…aged photographs and traditional knick-knacks cluttering the walls...traditional Portuguese cuisine…savory local wines…and the magical sounds of Fado. Accompanied by the guitar and the viola, Fado songs tell stories of happiness and sadness, love and jealousy, and are based on the feeling known simply as saudade. Though no precise word can properly translate saudade, it is often described as a combination of deep nostalgia, strong desire and melancholy feelings. Nothing brings your experience in Portugal to life more than this evening of traditional, profound Fado music.
