Day 1: Halifax, Nova Scotia - Tour Begins
To tour Atlantic Canada is to explore a region replete with scenic beauty and an enchanting history. Discover the treasures of Nova Scotia & Newfoundland when your tour begins in Nova Scotia's capital city, Halifax.
Day 3: Halifax - Sydney
This morning you cross the Canso Causeway onto lovely Cape Breton Island. Here you will drive along the pristine shores of Bras d'Or Lakes before discovering the many amazing inventions at the Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Baddeck. Your day ends in the harbor town of Sydney. (B, D)
Day 4: Sydney - Cabot Trail - Sydney
Travel along the famous Cabot Trail, one of the most scenic drives on the Atlantic coast.O It is sure to be a memorable highlight of your journey. A stop is made in Cheticamp to see the famed St. Peter's Church. Later, visit charming fishing villages and communities including Neil's Harbour and Ingonish. (B)
Day 5: Sydney - Corner Brook, Newfoundland
A ferry ride brings you to Newfoundland, one of Canada's best kept secrets. Embark on a scenic drive to the northern part of this spectacular province. Your day ends in the city of Corner Brook, located on the Humber River. (B, D)
Day 6: Corner Brook - Gros Morne - Corner Brook
Explore the deep fiords, stark mountains and dense spruce forest of Gros Morne National Park. Next, view the geological rarity of the famous Tablelands before visiting the village of Woody Point. Enjoy a short boat trip across the spectacular fiord before visiting Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse. OLater this evening, the "Sharecroppers", a well-known trio from the Corner Brook area, will delight you with songs about their Newfoundland & Labrador heritage.O (B)
Day 7: Corner Brook - Exploits Valley - Gander
This morning meet a local mineral specialist to learn about the labradorite stoneā¦from mining to the finished product. Later, travel through central Newfoundland to the Exploits Valley. Learn about the tragic story of the Beothuck Indians who inhabited this area until their extinction in 1920 during a visit to the Mary March Museum where you also trace the history of other early settlers. Explore a logger's village to learn about the rich traditions and history of this industry. Stroll through the camp and learn the purpose of each log building and the pride of each of the camp members. This afternoon, visit the Salmonid Interpretive Centre to learn about the life cycle of the Atlantic Salmon. Before leaving the area, you have an opportunity to witness and photograph Grand Falls. Upon arrival in Gander, visit the poignant Silent Witness memorial. OTonight, enjoy dinner with a few locals from the town of Gander. They will share their stories of living on "The Rock" as well as a major event that made international families and themselves very close friends.O (B, D)
Day 8: Gander - Twillingate - Gander
Today you travel to the beautiful outport community of Twillingate, home to a colorful array of fishing wharfs and pastel houses perched on the cliffs. Visit Longpoint Lighthouse and be on the lookout for icebergs and whales as they make their way down Iceberg Alley. Enjoy a tour of a local winery where you will learn how to make wine from local berries and sample a tasting. Tonight, become a true Newfoundlander at a screech-in where you sample a local screech and kiss the cod. Enjoy a Jiggs dinner, a local favorite. (B, D)
Day 9: Gander - Terra Nova National Park - St. John's
You will travel through beautiful Terra Nova National Park, part of the ancient Appalachian Mountains. Visit the Marine Atlantic Centre where you will learn first hand about some of the marine life within Terra Nova National Park. OContinue south to rugged Cape Spear, home to a lighthouse on "the most easterly point in North America." Watch for whales in the distance and see the many local birds that are commonly found there.O Arrive in St. John's and enjoy some leisure time to relax or independently explore the local area. (B)
Day 10: St. John's
This morning, enjoy a locally guided tour of historic St. John's, one of the oldest cities in North America. Enjoy Signal Hill, Cabot Tower and the city's harbor. This afternoon enjoy some time at leisure to relax, shop or independently explore. You may choose to take an optional journey to Bay Bulls for an unforgettable nature cruise off the coast of St. John's. Tonight, join us for a farewell dinner and a toast to a wonderful vacation. (B, D)
Day 11: St. John's - Tour Ends
Your tour ends in St. John's, leaving you many remarkable memories of your trip to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
