Itinerary
Day 1: Southfield, Michigan - Tour Begins Beautiful
Mackinac Island and the Great Lakes region are the setting for this
unforgettable Collette vacation. This tranquil area boasts
incredible scenery and old-fashioned traditions. Tonight enjoy a
special welcome dinner. (D)
Day 2: Southfield *Today
you will experience the Ford Rouge Factory Tour where you will witness
a manufacturing miracle. Right before your eyes tons of iron ore,
coal, and sand pour into one side of the complex and polished
automobiles roll out the other.* You can also visit Greenfield
Village or Henry Ford Museum for an experience in living history: view
historic homes and famous American workshops including those from The
Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Robert Frost. (B)
Day 3: Southfield - Frankenmuth This
morning travel north and savor the old-world charm of Frankenmuth, an
enchanting town with a rich Bavarian influence and gingerbread-style
architecture. Visit Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland, the world’s largest
Christmas store. *This afternoon enjoy a German wine tasting
before you feast on a wonderful Bavarian-style meal. * Enjoy time
at leisure in the afternoon to explore the town’s many
European-influenced shops and bakeries. (B, L)
Day 4: Frankenmuth - Holland - Grand Rapids This
morning depart Frankenmuth for the quaint village of Holland. Few
places in the world evoke the feeling of spring like this town does
year-round. Your first stop is at the Veldheer Tulip Gardens to view
the extraordinary flowers in bloom. Later you will visit the Dutch
Village, which recreates the old-world charm of the Netherlands.
Klompen dancers perform, shops beckon, and the tunes from the Amsterdam
Street organ invite you to dance. Later, arrive in Grand
Rapids. (B, D)
Day 5: Grand Rapids - Mackinac Island Today
explore the cherry capital of the world and enjoy an informative and
entertaining stop at Amon Orchards, where you can sample unique cherry
products and home-baked goods. *Later today, learn about the
history of the radio and phonograph with a visit to the Music House
Museum which is filled with rare working and antique musical
instruments.* Later, arrive on incredible Mackinac Island. This
picturesque island evokes an old-fashioned feel and is often called the
"Bermuda of the North." No automobiles are allowed on Mackinac, an
island with just over 500 permanent residents, so enjoy a leisurely
stroll through the cottage-filled village dotted with flowers.
Your home for the next two nights is the world-famous Grand
Hotel. (B, D)
Day 6: Mackinac Island This
morning you will board a horse-drawn carriage and tour a variety of
historical sites on this Victorian-style island. Following your ride,
enjoy some free time to explore the area on your own. *This
afternoon, take a "behind the scenes" look at the Grand Hotel's
kitchen. Over 300,000 meals are served in the Main Dining Room
every season. Tour everything from the bakery to the dish
room…see how they do it!* Later, enjoy a cooking demonstration led by
one of the Grand Hotel’s chefs. Together you will prepare menu
items from hors d'oeuvres to elaborate desserts and taste the delicious
results. (B, D)
Day 7: Mackinac Island - Green Bay, Wisconsin Today
you depart the beautiful Mackinac Island and journey to Wisconsin,
known as “America’s Dairyland.” Later, arrive into Green Bay,
home of the Green Bay Packers! (B)
Day 8: Green Bay - Door County - Green Bay This
morning you travel through a picturesque green landscape dotted with
farmlands, red barns and dairy cows. Arrive in Door County, an
incredible region of Wisconsin boasting over 250 miles of scenic
shoreline. Visit the Door Peninsula Winery for a tasting and learn how
they make their unique fruit wines. *A stop at the Door County
Maritime Museum teaches you the rich maritime history of this region -
if you are lucky, you will even catch a skilled craftsman at work on a
traditional wooden boat!* Explore some of the charming coastal villages
in Door County before tonight’s dinner, an authentic Fish Boil, just
the way the locals do it! (B, D)
Day 9: Green Bay - Chicago, Illinois This
morning travel to Chicago, the dynamic city known as the "Second City,"
the "Windy City," the "City of Big Shoulders," and "Chi-town." Chicago
is celebrated for its beautiful lakefront, breathtaking architecture,
world-class museums, great theatre, cutting-edge restaurants and
fantastic shopping. This afternoon enjoy a tour of “The Windy
City.” Highlights include the Historic Water Tower, Pumping
Station, famed Michigan Avenue, Millennium Park, Wrigley Building, The
Loop and Lake Front. This evening join your fellow travelers and
